Can I Keep the Original Look? (Clear Coat & Powder Coat Options)Updated a day ago
Some customers prefer the raw, gray steel look of a fresh Metalbird—and yes, you can preserve that clean finish.
Here’s how:
Option 1: Clear Coat
Apply a product like Rust-Oleum Matte Clear Enamel within the first few days of installation. This will:
Lock in the original metallic look
Slow down or prevent patina development
Offer mild protection against rain and salt
Reapply once or twice a year, depending on your weather.
Option 2: Powder Coating
If you want a colored or ultra-durable finish, powder coating is the way to go. This must be done by a professional before installation. You’ll get a uniform, baked-on finish that resists chipping and fading.
Important: Once the patina starts forming, clear or powder coatings won’t stick properly. Coat early if that’s your preference.
